Encaustic is a very ancient technique of painting.
The word encaustic originates from the Greek “Enkaustikos”, which means to burn in: conveying the notion of fusion of pigment and wax through necessary heat. This technique was already successfully used in Egypt around 100-300 AD for amazingly beautiful portraits and mummy portraits of the deceased. The uniqueness of this particular technique is the transparency effect that can be obtained with wax, giving paintings the sensuality of smooth skin…
“I combine this ancien technique with more actual ones, such as collage. I also incorporate metallic colors and oil paints in order to complement my encaustic paintings”.
